IKEA curtain rods are pretty much ubiquitous and, according to a new study, they work well.
The research, which appeared in the Journal of Industrial Ecology, compared a series of curtain rods to curtain rods with different materials.
The results showed that curtain rods in particular performed well at blocking light from the outside of the door.
“The results suggest that IKEa curtain razors provide a safe, reliable, and low-cost alternative to conventional curtain rods for curtain rod use in interior spaces,” the authors write.
But they also point out that curtain rod safety and durability depend on the material used.
For example, curtain rods may not be as strong as curtain rods made of polyester or cotton.
“While the majority of IKEas curtain rods do not need to be replaced due to wear, they may be a better choice for interior applications,” the researchers write.
They suggest buying curtain rods that can withstand wear and tear.
Another downside of curtain rod rods is that they require a lot of space in a room, according a spokesperson for Ikea.
For those reasons, IKEabs curtain rods were the least expensive option for interior curtains.
The researchers hope their findings can help IKEans make better choices about the materials they choose to use in their curtain rods.
